When is it required to have a stop valve?

In Norway, new homes must follow the TEK10 and TEK17 regulations to prevent water damage, which require a stop valve. This applies to most houses built after July 2010. For older homes being renovated, the applicable TEK regulations must be followed. For example, a single-family home from 1985 will meet the building regulations without a stop valve. However, when renovating in 2024, the homeowner must follow the TEK17 rules and install a stop valve.

Important

Regardless of building regulations, we recommend installing a stop valve. This ensures the security of the residential building!

Frost protection with WaterGuard+

WaterGuard+ includes an effective frost protection feature that can be activated directly from the app. This feature is designed to protect against damage caused by frost. When the temperature falls to a preset level (we do not recommend lower than 10 degrees), WaterGuard+ will automatically shut off the water supply to prevent the water pipes from freezing and bursting. This helps to avoid potentially costly water damage in your home while providing you with security and peace of mind, especially during the cold winter months.

Water damage

Have you installed a stop valve in all apartments in the residential building that has prevented more severe water damage on the water pipes? Then you may be able to reduce your excess in the event of damage. Water damage can be very costly to repair, but with the right preventive measures, it can be avoided or limited. By installing stop valves in the residential building, you can reduce the risk of water damage while also enjoying a lower excess should any damage occur. This makes it a sensible choice to invest in stop valve technology to protect your property and save money in the long run.
