Travel insurance that provides lounge access
If you have our annual travel insurance – either as a Private individual Or through Work – you and up to four fellow travellers gain access to an airport lounge or a payout via SmartDelay+ if the flight is delayed by more than one hour.
How SmartDelay+ works
- Register your flight at least 24 hours before departure with SmartDelay+. You will be asked to add a registration code, which you can find in the online bank, or receive from your employer if you are insured through work. Only flights that provide updated delay information via an international tracking system can be registered. Some charter companies do not register delays, which means the service does not work for their flights. Remember that SmartDelay+ also applies to cancelled flights.
- Add the names of yourself and your fellow travellers, flight number, email and telephone number.
- If your flight is delayed by more than one hour, you will receive a voucher by SMS giving you access to the airport lounge, where you will find food, drinks, wifi and places to relax. If the airport does not have a lounge, you and your fellow travellers will receive a payout of 40 euros per person. The payout is via PayPal.
- For a service fee, you can also receive help to claim a refund for the journey from AirHelp if the flight is delayed by more than three hours. You can select this when you register the journey with SmartDelay+.

Get help to receive a refund for your trip
If your flight is delayed by more than three hours, you may be entitled to compensation of up to 600 euros. When you register your trip with Smartdelay, you will also have the option to use AirHelp – a service that specialises in securing compensation for flight delays.
When you use AirHelp, they will automatically apply for a refund on behalf of you and your travel companions. They handle the entire process from start to compensation, but charge a service fee of 35% of the compensation you receive.

You can also choose to apply for a refund yourself. In that case, you will need to familiarise yourself with the applicable rules and documentation requirements, for example from Norwegian Consumer Council.
