Damage prevention measures and advice against:

Frost and water damage

  • Use of stop valves: Install stop valves to detect and automatically stop leaks, especially in rooms without drains or waterproof floors.
  • Pipe placement and maintenance: Install water and drainage pipes in a way that they are easily accessible for inspection and maintenance. Avoid hidden pipes in ceilings and walls to detect leaks early
  • Frost protection: Ensure that pipe installations are protected from frost by avoiding cold areas and ensuring that temperatures are kept above minimum limits
  • Moisture and mould management: Quickly address moisture and water damage to prevent swelling, rot and mould, which can lead to health and structural problems.
  • Proper storage: Store items in rooms on the ground floor at least 10 cm above the floor to protect them from possible water leakage.

Fire damage

  • Fire compartmentalisation: Divide the building into fire compartments with regulation-compliant fire doors and ventilation ducts to prevent fire spread.
  • Electrical systems: Inspect cables and equipment regularly. Use thermography to detect heat build-up and overheating.
  • Heating and insulation: Ensure that flues are secure, and that fuel and ash are monitored. Install heating systems correctly.
  • Fire alarm systems: Install and maintain fire alarms for early warning and rapid response in the event of fire.
  • Frying and kitchen equipment: Install automatic extinguishing systems and ensure regular maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

Burglary

  • Physical protection: Enhance security by securing doors and windows with FG-approved locking devices and locks. Use grilles for extra protection against quick break-ins.
  • Intruder alarm: Install an alarm system that reacts to intrusions or attempts at intrusion. The alarm system should include sirens and transmission to an alarm station for quick response.
  • Common entry points: Protect main doors, secondary entrances, windows and balcony doors, which are the areas most vulnerable to intrusion. Secure windows with locks and grilles where necessary.
  • Maintenance and training: Regular maintenance and training of security systems are essential to maintain effective protection.
  • Security requirements: Follow the insurance companies' security regulations and level of protection, which vary according to the risk of intrusion.

Snow and ice from the roof

  • Regular inspection: Make sure to have routines to prevent a risk of falling snow and ice from roof Check the roof regularly for accumulation of snow and icicles, especially after heavy snow or temperature fluctuations.
  • snow clearance: Heavy snow and ice can harm people, animals and objects. Clear snow and remove ice from the roof when there is a lot of snow, or temperature fluctuations that cause large icicles. It’s a good idea to have an agreement with a professional for regular removal of snow and ice. This ensures that the roof is kept free of dangerous accumulations throughout the winter.
  • Snow bumpers: Reduce the risk of falling snow or ice, for example by installing snow skirts where there is a risk of racial danger.
  • Signposting: Set up the necessary danger signs at entrances and other exposed areas, but remember that signs do not replace the physical removal of snow and ice.
  • Documentation and maintenance plan: It is a good idea to keep a log of maintenance and snow removal in order to be able to document that necessary measures have been taken in the event of an injury.

Glasswork for vehicles

Stone chip

It is important to keep a distance from vehicles in front to avoid a stone chip. If you get a stone chip, you should stop and stick to a stone chip sticker to avoid the damage getting worse. It is therefore recommended to have a stone chip patch in all company vehicles.

You can order stone spray patches free of charge from our partner Hurtigruta Carglass,

It’s easy to use the patch. All you need to do is place the patch on the stone chips as soon as the damage has occurred. However, remember that stone chips are a temporary, not a permanent solution. You should make an appointment for repairs as soon as possible.

Repair of stone chips is free with Toppkasko, Kasko and Delkasko. If the box needs to be replaced, there is a deductible of NOK 3,000. If you need repairs, you can either call our insurance company Fremtind on 02300, or find a workshop near you in the insurance portal.
